Ageing

Look your best at every age

Ageing is a fact of life, ageing prematurely is not. There are many different factors that cause premature ageing and we are here to help you combat and understand them one by one.

It pays to treat your skin with even more respect and care to ensure lines stay smooth and skin stays glossy with health.

Ageing is a fact of life, ageing prematurely is not!

Many of the decisions we make now can impact negatively on how our skin ages, so it’s important to be as proactive as possible while you still can. Before you reach for the more extreme anti-ageing procedures, take time out to care for your skin. It will make a huge difference in the future.

Signs and causes of early ageing

Lack of skin firmness

Lack of skin firmness is due to loss of collagen and elastin production.

Collagen is a fibrous protein in our bodies which is responsible for keeping our skin firm. Found in skin, bones and connective tissues, this is what holds the body together. Sadly, collagen production declines with age and exposure to factors such as UV light, smoking or high sugar consumption – and that’s when we start to notice wrinkles and sagging.

Once you hit 30 you will lose 2% of collagen in your skin every year. Read more about collagen and collagen production here.

Fine lines and wrinkles

Fine lines and wrinkles are also caused by the natural breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin. The skin gets thinner, drier and less elastic, which in turn, leads to fine lines, wrinkles and creases.

Other factors like sun exposure, smoking, lifestyle, the environment and genetics are linked to these early signs of ageing.

Smiling, squinting, frowning and other facial expressions can also lead to the development of fine lines and wrinkles which deepen with time.

Wrinkles don’t just appear on the face, but also other parts of the body that receive regular sun exposure, including the neck, arms and back of the hands.

Eyes and neck: the biggest ageing giveaways!

Your eyes and neck are often the biggest ageing giveaways. The delicate area around the eyes and the (often forgotten about neck) need love and attention so they don’t give your age away. A great way to look after your neck is to treat it the same way you would your face. This means using your skincare products and sunscreen all the way down to (and including) your décolletage. Don’t forget to treat the skin on your neck and décolletage as an extension of your face.

Our In-Clinic Solutions

At Total Body Concept we offer a range of anti-ageing treatments, from high tech Laser Genesis and Skin Needling to traditional facial treatments. Not only do facials help to thoroughly cleanse the skin, they’re also a great way to help your skin absorb anti-ageing products. Monthly facials work to improve elasticity and promote collagen production, which will give your skin a smoother texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Perhaps best of all, facials are a great opportunity for your skincare consultant to thoroughly examine your skin, and provide tailored advice specific to your skin type.

Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis is specifically designed to stimulate your skin’s natural processes. The laser’s light energy is delivered into your skin through a series of micro-pulses, activating collagen production by stimulating fibroblast cells. It improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and skin texture and creates a beautiful, luminous effect on the skin.

Skin Needling

Designed to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture, and give a plump and firm overall more youthful and glowing appearance, Ultra Skin Needling quickly becomes a favourite treatment for those who try it.

Ultra fine, medical grade stainless steel needles are passed vertically across the skin creating multiple surface skin channels. Each of the thousands of tiny puncture wounds induces the release of growth factors that begin the process of wound healing. These factors stimulate new collagen and elastin growth in the surrounding skin which, once initiated, can continue for up to 12 months.

Skin Resurfacing

For true fractional non-ablative skin resurfacing. Skin resurfacing procedures use lasers to reduce the signs of aging and improve skin texture, laxity and tone. The ResurFX works on promoting new collagen and elastin production deep within the skin by causing a physical non-ablative injury. The skin then responds with wound healing and brings in new collagen and elastin to ‘heal’ the surrounding skin.
